Not sure which treatment is right for you? We will decide together after your first visit.

Individual Psychotherapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a psychotherapy that focuses on changing the thoughts and behaviors that cause or exacerbate mental health problems. CBT has been shown to be effective for a wide range of mental health problems including depression, anxiety, phobias, insomnia, trauma, and perinatal mood disorders. CBT focuses on the here-and-now and helps patients efficiently and effectively reach their goals.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based therapy for emotion dysregulation problems, chronic suicidality and self-harm, impulsive behaviors, and Borderline Personality Disorder. Patients in my practice receiving individual DBT must also be enrolled in a DBT skills group for the duration of treatment. At this time, I do not have a DBT group in my practice, though I refer patients to trusted colleagues who are experts in providing this service. DBT patients also have access to in-the-moment phone coaching, and I am part of a DBT consultation team that helps me be the most effective DBT therapist for my patients. (Please note that I offer DBT skills-only coaching to patients with an outside individual therapist; see below).

Trauma Therapy

I offer Prolonged Exposure (PE) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for patients with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Both of these treatments have been shown to be equally effective in treating PTSD. If you’re not sure which one is right for you, we will decide together after our first meeting which treatment to begin. I specialize in treating trauma problems related to sexual assault, sexual abuse, and birth trauma.

Skills Coaching

DBT Individual Skills Coaching

For clients with another outside individual therapist, I offer 1-on-1 DBT skills coaching as an alternative to DBT skills groups. Individual skills coaching follows a similar format to DBT skills groups in that we cover the 4 modules from the DBT skills workbook: Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, Interpersonal Effectiveness, and Mindfulness.

Workshops

Bringing Baby Home Couples Workshop

The medical system often focuses on preparing parents for their baby’s birth. Yet, there’s an absence of resources for parents who want to prepare for what happens when they bring their baby home.

Dr. Dixon became a Certified Bringing Baby Home Educator in 2024. The Gottman Institute's research-based Bringing Baby Home workshop prepares couples for life with a baby by helping them be the best parenting team possible. Couples learn to strengthen their relationship and foster their baby’s development. They build on what Dr. Gottman and colleagues found is the best predictor of marital adjustment after a new baby arrives: the quality of friendship in the marriage. When babies grow up in a home with a positive, playful parenting team, they feel safe and nurtured and available to learn. They cry less, they smile more, and their parents' cooperation helps them to pay better attention during play time so that they get more out of it.

Couples who have participated in the program:

  • Were more satisfied in their relationship and were more likely to stay together

  • Were better prepared to bring their baby home

  • Were more able to work together in family play and in co-parenting, with greater father involvement and more secure father-infant attachment

Benefits for children:

  • Stronger language skills

  • Smiled and laughed more during family play at 3 and 12 months of age

The workshop is best taken during pregnancy or in baby’s first year of life. Second time+ couples are welcome. LGBTQIA+ couples are welcome. The course can be self-paced.
