FAQs
What should I expect from the first visit?
For our first visit, we will discuss what’s bringing you in to therapy and establish goals for our work together. In order to better understand you and who you are, your therapist will ask you questions about your mental health history, your family, any prior mental health treatment, and medical problems. If appropriate, your therapist will provide you with a mental health diagnosis. We will discuss treatment options and decide together how to proceed with psychotherapy.
What is your approach to therapy?
We are the experts in psychology, but YOU are the expert in your own life. It takes both you and your therapist working collaboratively to reach your goals in the most efficient and workable way possible. Drs. Dixon and Rosenberg approach each patient with compassion, understanding, and warmth. We also strive for authenticity and hope patients can feel that they can be their true selves in our sessions.
The treatment we provide is always evidence-based, meaning that the interventions we use are based in what science tells us works. For a description of these interventions, please see the services page.
Do you offer in-person treatment? Do you offer telehealth (virtual) services?
Both Dr. Dixon and Dr. Rosenberg offer telehealth (virtual) services. Dr. Dixon also offers in-person services from her office in Beverly Hills.
How long does therapy last?
Research tells us that for the vast majority of people, therapy can be short-term and time-limited and that the majority of treatment gains are in the first 4-6 months of treatment. With every patient we see, we evaluate progress on therapy goals every 90 days and determine if additional therapy will be useful. Only on rare occasions do we see patients past 1 year.
What is a PMH-C?
PMH-C stands for Perinatal Mental Health Certification. This designation is earned and awarded by Postpartum Support International and recognizes proficiency and expertise in perinatal mental health.
What is a Psychological Associate?
A psychological associate is an unlicensed therapist working under the supervision of a licensed clinical psychologist. Currently, Dr. Rosenberg is a psychological associate who has been approved by the CA Board of Psychology to provide therapy services under the license and supervision of Dr. Dixon. Although psychological associates may be at any point in their training, Dr. Dixon only accepts associates who have completed graduate school and received their PhD in her practice.
Do you offer evening or weekend appointments?
Dr. Dixon does not provide evening or weekend appointments.
At this time, Dr. Rosenberg has some evening and weekend availability.
What is the cost of treatment? Do you accept insurance?
Dr. Dixon’s fee is $400 and Dr. Rosenberg’s fee is $250 for a standard 50-minute psychotherapy session. Please note that session fees are subject to change. You may request a Good Faith Estimate prior to scheduling our first visit.
Dr. Dixon’s practice does not accept insurance, and Dr. Dixon is not a member of any insurance panels. We will provide you with a superbill, which may be submitted to your insurance company, who may reimburse you for part or all of the session fee. Please call your insurance company prior to scheduling the first visit to determine what your reimbursement rate is for out-of-network providers.
Even if your insurance company does not offer out-of-network benefits, you should still ask them if they do Single-Case Agreements (SCA). SCAs are used when an in-network provider is not available for your presenting problem, either because no one specializes in the disorder/treatment or if all in-network providers with that specialty are full and/or have a long waitlist. If your insurance company approves an SCA, you will still need to pay for sessions up-front, but will reimbursed by your insurance company.
Do you prescribe medication?
No. Dr. Dixon is a clinical psychologist, which means that we are licensed to provide psychotherapy only. We work closely with many psychiatrists who have specializations in working with a wide range of patients, including pregnant and postpartum women. If you are interested in a referral to a psychiatrist, please discuss it with your therapist in our first meeting.
Do you treat couples or families?
If we agree that it would be helpful for your treatment to involve a partner or other family members, Drs. Dixon and Rosenberg offer periodic, as-needed partner/family meetings in order to support you in reaching your treatment goals.
We do not offer couple therapy for relationship problems. If a patient is interested in a referral for a couple or family therapist, please ask about it at our first meeting.
Dr. Dixon offers a 6-session couple intervention for expecting or new parents: Bringing Baby Home workshop from The Gottman Institute. This workshop is to prepare couples for relationship and parenting challenges that often emerge in the postpartum period. For more information, please check out our services page.
What is your cancellation policy?
Appointments must be cancelled 24 hours in advance. Appointments that are cancelled less than 24 hours in advance will be charged the full session fee. Patients who plan to be away for more than 2 weeks will be charged the full session fee to keep their spot in the practice.
