My area of expertise:

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a psychotherapy that was originally developed specifically for people who struggle with suicidality, self-harm, and other impulsive and destructive behavior. In my practice, I use DBT to treat Borderline Personality Disorder and other emotion dysregulation problems. For a comprehensive summary of DBT, please visit the Behavioral Tech website.

I offer Comprehensive DBT, which means that the treatment in my practice includes the following:

  1. Weekly, individual psychotherapy sessions focused on helping my clients manage big emotions and implement effective coping in their lives

  2. Weekly skills group is a group that patients attend with other DBT patients that teaches skills for better tolerating distress and managing emotional crises, changing everyday emotions that are causing pain, managing interpersonal relationships, and increasing mindfulness. When joining my practice, I will help you find a DBT skills group in the community for you to attend for the duration of your time in DBT.

  3. As-needed phone coaching, which is in-the-moment skills coaching from me to help patients use their skills in their real day-to-day lives when they are struggling with a problem.

  4. DBT consultation team, which is a weekly meeting that I as your therapist attend to make sure that I am giving you the best treatment possible and am able to show up as the best therapist for you in any given moment.

When patients demonstrate interest in DBT, we will first meet for 3-4 “pretreatment” sessions, which will help us establish if DBT is a good fit, establish the goals for our treatment, discuss DBT treatment expectations, and set our treatment length which usually ranges from 6 months to 1 year.
